The Playwrights Theatre Centre Studio (PTC Studio) is home to new Canadian play readings, workshops and the annual Vancouver New Play Festival.  When not used for our own developmental activities, the PTC Studio is available for rental for rehearsals, play readings, workshops, classes, meetings, etc.

RENTAL RATES:

$50 hourly (minimum 4 hours)           

We reserve the right to add $14 per hour for Front of House staff for short term rentals. 

BOOKING

Provide your name, company (if applicable), purpose of the rental and dates/times required.  All inquiries will be answered by 3pm each Tuesday.

By May 31st each year, we will release dates for the following season:  September to August.   The venue is available between 9:00 am and 11:00 pm when it is not in use for PTC developmental activities. 

The PTC Studio will only be available during the times booked and the room must be left as it was found each day.  When booking, please remember to allow for set up, strike and clean-up time.

TERMS OF USAGE:

The PTC Studio is available for rehearsals, play readings, classes, workshops, meetings and other non-performance activities.

See below Information, Rules and Regulations.  It is the responsibility of the renter to read and be aware of the PTC Studio guidelines.

AMMENITIES:           

With your rental you have access to full kitchen facilities including fridge and microwave (no stove) and the Dressing/Green room. 

Washrooms are located on the same floor and the venue is wheelchair accessible.

There are standard house lights which can be operated from inside the room.  There is no access to the sound or lighting boards in the tech booth.  Some exceptions may apply for long term or recurring rentals.

OTHER COSTS:

We reserve the right to add $14 per hour for Front of House staff for short term rentals. 

The venue will be cleaned on a weekly basis at the expense of PTC.  Renters are required to leave the rented areas clean and swept before they finish each day.  Additional required or requested cleaning will be charged back to the renter at $50 per cleaning.  Full janitorial equipment is available for the renters use.

The Writers’ Room may be available for an additional rental fee.

DEPOSITS & RENTAL PAYMENT

A deposit of 50% is required at the time of contracting the rental. 

Additionally, there will be a $200 damage deposit required at the time of the rental.  Any damage to the venue (see list of venue guidelines) will be the responsibility of the renter.

CANCELLATIONS:

PTC requires a 30 day notice of cancellation.  If the cancellation is less than 30 days, the full rental will be charged.

For cancellations prior to 30 days, a $50 administrative fee will be collected.

ROOM DETAILS:

The PTC Studio is approximately 35’ wide X 40’ long X 16’ high.

Note:  There are currently risers in the room until October 2009.  The playing space until then is 35’ X 24’ X 16’high.

CONCESSION

There is no concession provided by the facility

INSURANCE:

The renter is responsible for coverage of any equipment brought into the venue,


RULES AND REGULATIONS:
PTC STUDIO

Address:  3rd Floor, 1398 Cartwright Street, Granville Island

There may be no FIRE/FLAME in the Studio or any other room in the Festival House building.  This includes cigarettes, candles, etc. 

You may not screw/nail into the Studio floor.

Renters must request permission from Playwrights Theatre Centre to hang any decor and/or set decoration.  This includes attaching anything to any wall surfaces in the Festival House building.

Smoking is prohibited throughout the premises.

No bicycles are allowed in the building.  Roller blades must be removed at the ground floor level.

Liquor licenses are the responsibility of the rental.  Approval for the sale of alcohol must be obtained in writing.  Any liquor must be kept on the 3rd floor (indoors).  Failure to do so will result in the immediate cancellation of the booking and the renter will be responsible for any fines incurred.

No tape is allowed on the theatre walls without express permission from Playwrights Theatre Centre.  Any floor tape must be non-marking and removed at the end of the rental.

The PTC Studio and all other rented rooms remain locked when not in use.  The renter will lock the doors after each rental.

The renter may only use the rooms stated in the contract.

Storage of rehearsal props and set pieces is not permitted unless agreed upon ahead of time.

Playwrights Theatre Centre is not responsible for the loss, theft or damage of a renters material in the rented space, or outside the building.

The renter is aware that no sales may take place in the building without written consent from Playwrights Theatre Centre (includes bake sales, craft/artisan sales, sales pitches, etc)

The renter understands that all outside props, furniture and equipment must have felt or rubber protectors to help minimize damage and preserve the floor in the PTC Studio.

The renter will remove all garbage and recyclables to the dumpsters across from the main entrance to the building.

PUBLIC NOTICE:  All public and internal references should be PTC Studio NOT Playwrights Theatre Centre.  Should publicity materials be issued incorrectly, we will require that same be corrected to reflect the proper wording.

LOCK UP/SECURITY:  After 6:00 pm the front doors of Festival House must be locked.  All renters must use the sign-in board at the front door entrance and are responsible to lock and alarm the building at the end of the day.

NOISE:  The floor is not sprung and not appropriate for high impact work (no stomping, tap dancing).  As there are tenants beneath the theatre, we need to be sensitive to noise carrying to the lower floors.
