Announcing the PTC Associates 2017-20
PTC is pleased to announce that we have chosen five playwrights as PTC Associates 2017 – 20. The five are developing four new projects. In Salesman in China, the team of Leanna Brodie and Jovanni Sy will use Arthur Miller’s landmark production of Death of a Salesman in Beijing as a jumping off point to talk about the search for understanding across great personal and cultural divides. Tetsuro Shigematsu comes in with a contemporary reimagining of a play written by Monzaemon Chikamatsu, the Shakespeare of Japan. The project is called Suicide Forest. Kendra Fanconi’s new work is an exploration with (and perhaps for) children about how they explore and control their environment and relationships. Right now it’s called Thingamabob, a child’s name for the imaginative worlds kids build that can hold the truth of who they are. Veronique West’s project, State of War, investigates the effects of personal and political trauma on a mother and daughter’s relationship. Using fact and fiction, poetry and documentary, she hopes to dramatize the powerful historical and psychological forces that separate and connect generations.
The PTC Associates will be in residence with PTC for three years beginning in the spring of 2017.
We are deeply grateful for the many high quality submissions we received from Vancouver playwrights –our faith in the depth and breadth of the talent of local theatre makers is once again affirmed.
