If this is you, apply for the Accessibility Coordinator role with PTC.

 

Playwrights Theatre Centre is looking for an accessibility coordinator with experience in accessibility practice for public events and digital projects. We need an individual that has worked with community consultants and accessibility service organizations before. We’re looking for someone that has training in working with underrepresented communities and groups, with knowledge of the fundamentals of conducting respectful and safe communications. Also, has supported the implementation of accessibility values for events, and a strong understanding of accessibility features for various digital platforms. Furthermore, we need a collaborative and self-sufficient person that values teamwork. Mental Health First Aid, Anti-Racism, Anti-Oppression and Equity Diversity Inclusivity (EDI) training is a plus.

Projects include: UNSCRIPTED (March & June 2022), a short-form cross-platform digital project (ongoing through 2022) and other public events.

Areas of responsibility:

  • Work with the PTC staff and artistic teams to create an accessibility plan.
  • Research and adapt current PTC accessibility documentation and resources that communicates the organization’s accessibility values and programming to contracted artists and audiences;
  • Research and create accessibility content for pubic (in-person and digital) events and workshops;
  • Work with PTC staff to engage community consultants and access service providers for public programming.
  • Work with the Community Engagement Producer and Communications Manager to ensure access needs is part of the marketing and community engagement plan.

Helpful skills:

  • A high understanding of the protocols working with communities such as those that identify as d/Deaf or Hard of Hearing, who identify as blind or with vision loss, and other communities (ie those that identify as Aneurotypical, people with Disabilities or lived experience of Disabilities, people who are Mad identified, people living with Mental Illness, and 2SLBTQQAI+);
  • Create clear written documents in English. (Whether English is your first language or not, we welcome you to apply.) Other language skills are a welcome asset.
  • Experience in working and using digital platforms (ie Youtube, Facebook, Instagram etc).
  • Translate complex information into accessible content.
  • Consider cultural protocols as essential elements in communication engagement plans.

Terms:

Term: February 1, 2022 – July 31, 2022 with the possibility to renew.
Fee: $7000.00
This is a contract position, estimated 280 hours at $25/hr.
AC must provide their own laptop or computer.

PTC’s office is on the ground floor at PL 1422. The access audit is available here. The successful candidate can create a mix of in-person and remote work in consultation with the team.

Candidates must be legally able to work in Canada.

PTC is unable to pay relocation costs.
