Playwrights Theatre Centre and Project SAT (South Asian Theatre) are calling for submissions from potential participants in a new series of dramaturgical discussions focused on exploring the heritage and potential of South Asian Theatre in the lower mainland, BC.
The structure of the individual sessions will be derived in part from the desires of the participants, and group discussion may include: issues of ethics and permission in the incorporation of the sacred in performance, tensions between a desire for “entertainment” and sensory stimulation, and a desire for meaning; complex identities and roles in community; representations of community; finding potency in processes that are now labelled “community”. The participants will be asked to attend two theatrical events, one before Block SAT begins, to use as a basis for discussion.
Format: series of 6 sessions, totalling 18 hours, plus two “outings”.
Timeline: Six Wednesdays, beginning June 27 and ending August 1, 2018 6 pm – 9 pm at PTC, 739 Gore Ave.
Participants will purchase a PTC membership and pay a $100 deposit. The deposit is refundable, based on attendance. If you are unable to attend the majority of the sessions, you are taking a space from someone else and will lose your deposit.
Program size: maximum 8 participants.
To join Block SAT 2018: please submit a letter of no more than two pages outlining how you expect Block SAT to intersect with your performance practice along with a resume of your work in theatre and/or other live performance via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject heading Block SAT.
