WrightSpace: It starts with the artist

lorem

How do you make a play?

Start with the artist. Believe in them and then let yourself be surprised by what they discover.
Reveal the creative impulse and say, Yes, let’s!”

Jiv ParasramOur 12th annual winter residency program, WrightSpace, is bringing together four Vancouver writers with Guest Dramaturg Jiv Parasram.

“My intention is always to position the creator as knowledge-keeper, clarifying their objectives and honing their project towards their unique practice.”  – Jiv Parasram

Help PTC say, “Yes, let’s!” to these new Canadian plays.

  • Barbara Adler’s Koiker explores the territory between poetry, performance and theatre through the figure of the Koiker, the Dutch word for Decoy Man, the one who lays the trap.
  • In You Used to Call Me MarieTai Amy Grauman moves a mythical/historical/fictional couple through history, as they live, love, and carry forward their cultural knowledge.
  • Robert Hamilton brings together actors from different generations to explore the AIDS crisis in Vancouver through his memoir piece Our Story.
  • Yvonne Wallace’s Utszan in English and Ucwalmicwts is a play and a story/language reclamation project. She will explore language-sharing mediums and engage an elder speaker as a consultant to bring this Indigenous story to life.

There are many roads leading into the world of a play. Will you please help these writers discover their unique path?

Your gift of $150 supports an entire day at WrightSpace for one of these playwrights.

Please join us with a gift today.

With gratitude,
